Our Mission at Sunland Foursquare Church is to Love Jesus, Love The Journey, & Love The Neighborhood

At Sunland Foursquare we desire to be a people who wholly love, honor, and seek to put Jesus first in everything that we do. Everything that we do as both the gathered and sent church of Jesus Christ is purposed, above all else, that we will grow evermore in our love for and devotion to Jesus. Like a nut and a bolt working together we believe that we cannot adequately love Jesus without tangibly and authentically loving both our church family and our neighbor as ourselves. If we are truly loving Jesus and growing in our love for Him, it is assured that we will likewise grow in loving, valuing, and welcoming all people to simultaneously love and grow in Him while growing in love for one another!

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

-Matthew 22:34-40

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

-John 13:34-35

But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

-1 Timothy 1:5

At Sunland Foursquare Church we desire to be a people who love the journey that Jesus has us on together! A journey is a progression from one place or stage to another, usually taking a rather longtime. To love the journey is to love the process of changing and growing and moving together toward the mutual goal of fulfilling our God-given assignment as a church. To love the journey is to value the equipping and training for the road ahead. To love the journey is to value our togetherness and relationships over demanding perfection. To love the journey is to value pacing for the long haul over demanding artificial results right now. To love the journey is to value and celebrate growth and progress in every person. To love the journey is to value encouraging and building others up to move forward even when things are uncertain or the journey becomes taxing. To love the journey is to value always making a place for others who want to come along! Jesus intends for the Sunland Foursquare Church to be on a journey together that is always moving and changing as it advances further into our neighborhood!

23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.   24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

 -Hebrews 10:23-25

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. 15 For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing”

                                            -2 Corinthians 2:14-15

At Sunland Foursquare Church we desire to be a people who tangibly and powerfully love the neighborhood to which Jesus has sent us. We desire to be the body of Jesus advancing into our neighborhood that goes toward and seeks the welfare of its people. Like Jesus who came in love to humanity and dwelt among us, we desire to literally be and bring the good news of Jesus to our neighborhood. We believe that the appropriate result of our love for Jesus and the journey will always be us as His church effectively loving our neighborhood as He would!

The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.

 -John 1:14

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you
… Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

-Jeremiah 29:7

5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

-Colossians 4:5-6
